CIYMS RFC: 3’s A Charm for CI

Match Report: 3′s a charm for CI

Match Report: 3′s a charm for CI
3′s a charm for CI with wins from all three teams who were in action on Saturday.

CI 3rds claimed their second win of the campaign against Dromore with an inspired performance on the big pitch…

This game kicked off in the crisp early-winter chill with CI looking to register their second win of the season and consolidate their league position, against a Dromore side who sat just below them in the ladder.

Away fixtures elsewhere meant that the team could play at Belmont for one of the first times this season and were even promoted to the big pitch in front of the club house.

A try from Warren Mitchell and two early penalties from Pete McCausland got the home side off to a good start as they seemed to enjoy the novelty of the electronic scoreboard. Key during this period was the superb and committed defence of the CI pack who kept the opposition at bay and more importantly kept them scoreless by the time the referee blew for the interval.

CI turned round for the second half with the wind now at their backs and looked to seal the victory from the off. The backs took full advantage of the increased space available and ran in another four tries. Firstly, Tony Rush crossed before Warren Mitchell added his second. Nathan Burns claimed a third before Darren Magill continued his fine form of late by crossing the whitewash himself. Pete McCausland kept the score keepers busy by adding a number of conversions and penalties.

Full-time: The game rounded out with CI victors by a convincing margin of 35-0.

Special mention to Warren Mitchell nearly getting a hat trick on his return, welcome back Warren!

Tough call with all the tries from the backs, but for his constant winning the ball in the loose, yards made and supply of ball to the backs, man of the match went to Andrew Simpson!

In other CIYMS games at the weekend:

CI 1sts travelled to Cooke and came out 21-13 winners after trailing at halftime. An improved second half platform from the pack at scrum and lineout maul, combined with good finishing by man of the match Paul McCausland, saw CI home in this Belfast Q1 derby. A more detailed report is expected in this Tuesday’s Belfast Telegraph.

CI 4th’s travelled to Randalstown and came out 38-0 winners. The experience and talent of the CI back-line proved too much for the homeside who battled hard but came up scoreless for their efforts.
