Book: Hey There It’s Me – A Mental Health Picture Book By Atifah Kotadia

Get ready for an emotional hug for when times are tough.

Hey there, I know right now life doesn’t feel okay, you feel trapped inside yourself day after day. But just know, you are going to get better, you are not on your own. ‘Cause it’s me, I’m here with you, and you should never feel alone.

“Hey There It’s Me,” is a mental health picture book for all ages that speaks directly to the reader about their negative self-talk offering support, empathy and connection. It leaves a message that no one is alone, there are others who have similar experiences, and that support can be found externally or within.

This is more than just a book, it is a gift of support and a wellness tool that can connect to children, teens and adults. It helps readers find reassurance and comfort in their own experiences; teaches concepts of negative self-talk, depression and empathy; and destigmatize conversations about mental health, making this an easier approach to opening a doorway into a dialogue

Designed to be a resource to help decrease the loneliness depression creates, “Hey There It’s Me” is based on the author’s own experiences. She realized, the best way to move forward from depression isn’t to find the mythical off switch. Rather, to do something that makes a difference for others. This way, the experience of depression has meaning and doesn’t feel like a waste of time. It is her hope that people can utilize this book to extend support, comfort and value. Because no matter who you are, no matter your background, you are not alone.

Atifah Kotadia
Atifah Kotadia never imagined being a writer, she never imagined staying up at night to stitch rhythmic compositions, nor did she imagine spending hours spraining her back to create whimsical images. No, Atifah spent her time simply lost in her head imagining worlds and stories. That is, until one day, insanity hit. She found herself masquerading as a volunteer journalist, writing personal stories about seniors in the local Senior Centre’s Newsletter. Then she continued this trend of losing her mind and decided to recreate the Kids’ Menus in her restaurant, a new menu with unique drawings and a questionable storyline for each month. Yes, you read that right, each month!

Atifah enjoys entrepreneurship, that is to say she enjoys the process of creating and solving problems. Her obligatory hobby is baking, though if you want evidence, just know she never takes pictures of them. You see, they have a knack for being ugly.
