30 students will be recruited in the first year to Belfast Metropolitan College to undertake a BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport Performance and Excellence, equivalent to 120-360 UCAS points. Along with the opportunity of attaining a level 2 Fitness Instructor Certificate.
The age criteria for intake in the first year is for players who are 16 and 17 on the 1st of July and players of any and all sports may apply for the academy screening process.
Students will train for 15 hours per week over 6 days with sports science support monitoring them throughout the 2 years in the Academy.
Players will have access to strength and conditioning coaches; fitness testing; recovery sessions; sports psychology; team and individual video analysis and coaches who have experience of coaching all age-grades, adult and representative squads.
The vision of the Rugby Academy is to produce problem solvers; decision makers and young adults of both high academic and physical prowess, who are ready to enter higher education and Rugby Union squads at qualifying, All Ireland League standard and beyond or even the possibility of joining representative squads and semi-profesional clubs within Rugby League
