BALLYMENA RFC RASCALS HELP STIR SMILES: £1,144 Raised For The Wooden Spoon Charity – Well Done Rascals: Joined on the day by two very special guests

They may be small but this weekend the Ballymena rugby club Rascals proved when it comes to raising smiles they are giants. Their challenge this year was to complete 360 circuits of a circular Snakes and Ladders course carrying a rugby ball (slalom poles and agility ladders) to raise money for Wooden Spoon rugby’s charity for disadvantaged children.

Just prior to the BRFC 1st XV playing, the Rascals set out on a dry Saturday afternoon to complete the course. They were keenly watched by two very special guests; Ex Irish International, British Lion and Ulster President of Wooden Spoon Willie-John McBride and for the very first time in Ulster “Spoony” the charity mascot. Everyone ran brilliantly well round the course and even the coaches, mums, dads, brothers and sisters got to run a lap cheered on by their Rascal. Spoony had a great time with the Rascals, he especially loved hearing all their stories and jokes and also starting them off on their challenge.

The biggest smile of the day though was reserved for the announcement of the grand total raised: £1,144 all going to support disabled and disadvantaged children throughout the province. Well done the Rascals for helping to stir smiles!
