NUTTY KRUST FLOODLIT TOURNAMENT 2014

The second quarter final was played Wednesday evening at Chambers Park with Instonians u19s playing Larne u19s for a place in the semi finals.
Larne kicked off the game playing with a strong wind at their back with both teams finding it hard to control possession the opening 10 mins were a scrappy affair, Inst had to good opportunities to open the scoring but failed to capitalise on their strong start to the game .Larne grew in confidence and were awarded a penalty which was converted by outhalf Philip Andrews.
Inst hit back again but too many dropped passes meant there failed to open their account. As the intensity of the first half grew with both teams trying to gain the upper hand Larne were awarded another penalty but failed to convert. Inst scored their opening try with no 14 Callum Blundell going over in the corner after 2 quickly taken tap penalties, Grant Dillon failed to convert from the touch line.5-3 to Inst
Larne centre Jordan Burns caused Inst defence problems with his strong ruuning and from an intercept pass on his own 22 ran the length of the pitch to score under the posts with extra points being added . Inst replied with with a score when Taylor Gillespie picked up from the base of the scrum to score under the posts but the conversion was missed when no 13 Grant Dillons attempt hit the post. Larne 10 Inst 10 .
Two scintillating breaks from Larne’s no 14 Alan Murray made great ground but only some good cover defence by Inst prevented Larne from scoring. Inst went on the attack and moved the ball wide with scrum half Jonathan Spratt crossing the line to score but again but the conversion attempt by Joe Fryers was wide of the mark. 15-10 to Inst.
Larne had the final say in the game when they countered from deep in there own half and when James bell went on a mazy run to score under the posts and the conversion was added by outhalf Philip Anrews to make the final score 17-15 in Larne’s Favour.
Both teams served up an entertaining and competitive game , Inst had lots of opportunities in the game but Larne,s scrambling defence and their two centres in the second half caused Inst a lot of problems with there strong running , sees them into the Draw for the Semi Finals.

Man of the match award was presented in the Clubhouse to Larne centre Jordan Burns by Clive Bowles director of Rugby Portadown

The 3rd Quarter Final is Dungannon v Omagh on 26th March ko 7.45pm
