Northern Ireland’s own gateway to Africa right here in Bangor, Co. Down. Come in, leave the fast paced world at the door and spend a little time, ‘South African style’ enjoying the authentic cuisine on our extensive menu. These days, dining out has become a convenience rather than an experience and we would like to mend that. Our passion is to provide first class, fresh food along with premium service.

Our menu includes traditional favourites including steaks, chicken and delicious seafood. For the more adventurous we also have springbok, ostrich, puthu and chakalaka (not just fun to say, also delicious to eat!).

Food is cooked in front of your eyes on the coals of an open fire in the centre of our restaurant. Don’t be shy, come right up to our braai and check it out for yourself. Be part of our unique theatre of dining. We invite families, friends and contemporaries to join us for a meal any day of the week in our distinctive and tranquil venue.

Makhulu 5 – meaning the ‘big 5’ animals of Africa – lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo and elephant.

A personal note from the owner…

It is customary in South Africa for most Safari Lodges to have their own centred open fire-pit, whereby the guests enjoy watching their meal cooked in front of them and then relax surrounded by the beautiful view of the South African landscape, taking in the sights and sounds of the diverse wildlife as the sun sets.

So from my personal experience, we are trying to re-create this ambience and bring to you my favourite aspects of experiencing Africa, right down to the aroma of the burning wood.
